Question: What inspired you to start Cascade Greetings?
Tracy: I was tired of insulting cards about the aging process, especially regarding women. I wanted to start a line of greetings that would recognize this time for what it truly is, a time of rebirth and great opportunity. The purpose of Cascade Greetings is to recognize the changing paradigms of women’s lives and make a positive statement about their experiences going through the aging process.
Question: Who is your target audience?
Tracy: I’d like to create messages that appeal to women born between the end of World War II and 1964, making them, today, between 42 and 61 years old. I believe this market is not being adequately served. And with about 76 million boomers in the U.S., it’s a huge potential customer base.
Question: What market problem are your cards trying to solve?
Tracy: Instead of women seeing middle age as an undesirable phase, Cascade Greetings wants them to see this time as a rebirthing process in which they can rebuild themselves, redefine who they are, and recreate a new beginning for the second half of their lives.
Question: How should a woman feel after purchasing a Cascade Greetings card?
Tracy: She should feel a renewed sense that the middle age years are a time of rejuvenation, a chance to soar to new heights in life with the wisdom gained. Although the cards are funny and have wonderful illustrations, the overall message emphasizes a more complete self, and downplays the importance of more the physical symbols of the aging process, such as wrinkles, extra pounds, or thinning hair. I want my card buyer to they feel as if she is the queen of wisdom and life. I know that’s how I want to feel.
